2018 Festival Trailer
Since 2002, UWPG Film Fest has showcased the work of post-secondary filmmakers from across North America. The festival provides the opportunity for emerging filmmakers to screen their work – a key component to the filmmaking process. The festival is free to submit to and attend.
Our Selection Jury is comprised of three industry professionals who are currently working in the Manitoba film industry and are graduates from film/media programs at Red River College, the University of Winnipeg and the University of Manitoba.
This jury will select films to screen at the festival.
This year’s Awards Jury included:
Danielle Sturk, Writer/Director/Producer
Fluently bilingual, Danielle is a writer/director/producer of documentaries, dramatic television series and experimental shorts. She also excels as artistic director/director of stage productions for live audience to television, such as Indigenous Day Live where she is National Artistic Director. Her most recent animated/live-action film “EL TORO” is closing the Gimme Some Truth Documentary Film Festival November 4th at Cinematheque. Danielle is a 2004 U of W Filmmaking program grad.
Libby Lea, Vice President, Production for FRANK Digital
After completing a diploma in Broadcasting, Libby was quickly whisked away to the Marketing & Communications world for over 10 years. During that phase of her career, she held various roles including; Director of Marketing & Director of Accounts and a stint at City Hall. Now in the production world she spends her days working with the FRANK team producing all sorts of video and animation content and working with the post-production team. Pitching projects, attending conferences and festivals is her favourite part of her gig.
Jeff Newman, Filmmaker
Jeff Newman kicked off his career in dramatic fashion – winning the illustrious World’s Richest Pitch competition at the Banff Media Festival, and went on to produce the Gemini Award winning documentary Hockey Brawl. Since then, he’s created docs for broadcasters such as CBC, CTV, Smithsonian, OLN, and Discovery to name a few. Most recently, Jeff co-produced and directed the critically acclaimed series First Contact for APTN. He lives and works in Winnipeg.
Brad Crawford, Cinematographer
Brad Crawford has been working in the Film industry in Winnipeg for over 10 years as a cinematographer and editor. Brad just finished shooting his first feature and continues to hone his craft working on commercials and travel documentaries.
